Fasting and Snacking
Do you do better fasting and feasting, or snacking?
I started experimenting with intermittent fasting for my health a few weeks ago. It went very well and made me feel much better. Of course, life happened and I fell off the bandwagon (mainly after a night with 3 hours of sleep…) But I am going to resume again.
And not just because it made my spondylitis better. But it made my brain feel better too. Less thinking about food. Less distraction eating constantly. Less worry knowing that if no food is available for a while I won’t go hungry.
And I’ve been thinking about how this extrapolates to other areas of life. In past experiments I’ve found similar mental relief from “fasting” from news, or social media, or all manner of things.
And I’m realizing that, by nature, I’m more of a faster and feaster than a snacker. Don’t get me wrong, part of me wants to snack. On food, on media, whatever. But I never feel good afterwards. I always feel not quite like I have a hangover.
And there’s somethings where I find feasting doesn’t make me feel good either. Most sugar or sugar substitutes. Social media. Red meat. News. Buying shit. Those things I end up cutting out entirely.
So which are you, a faster or a snacker?
