Listen Here #4
Friends, a whole month of song sharing! Can you believe it? Today we have a tiny li’l grab-bag of songs, including an INSANE rec from rubiksboob. Incredible? I’m on my third listen in a row.
It’s my birthday next week & my birthday wish is that you share your favorite song about LOVE with me, please! Any kind of love (in fact, bonus points if it’s about non-romantic love)!
Also, a secondary wish is that perhaps you might share this humble newsletter with a friend or two! More readers = more songs shared = more songs for all of us to find and love!
<3 Lauren
This Week’s Songs:
Any song that was shared via Spotify link has been added to this public playlist for easy access.
Song/Artist: “Bathtime in Clerkenweld” by The Real Tueaday Weld
Genre: Lol, everything is jazz, baybeee
Feels like: Visualing your to-do list after 2 espressos
Loved by: rubiksboob
Why I love this song: It makes me want to run around like a toddler
Other context: Apparently it was on the Weeds soundtrack, but I really think I found it in the college radio stacks while wearing some urban outfitters nonsense and too much eyeliner. Also I used it to torment my college friends. (ed. note: lmfaooooo legend)
Song/Artist: "Sharpest Tool" by Sabrina Carpenter
Genre: Folk-Pop
Feels like: Clever :)
Loved by: Lauren
Why I love this song: Fave song on the record because of two sets of lyrics. The first is "We were going right then you took a left / Left me with a lot of shit to second-guess." I love the rising melodic line that this couplet is set to, and I really like the slant rhyme of left/guess. The second is "We never talk about how you found god at your ex's house / always made sure that the phone was face-down." Incorporating the word "phone" into a song and making it sound seemless.... I respect the craft. Also, finding god at your ex's house... I laughed out loud the first time I heard it.
Other context: It's literally Sabrina Carpenter
Song/Artist: "Falls on me" by Sylvie
Genre: Folk/New-Folk
Feels like: Coziest Fall Vibes!!
Loved by: Lauren
Why I love this song: this song is so WARM. The timbre of the guitar, the singer (a delightful Marina Allen) has a voice like liquid velvet. The words are cozy and a little wistful. It's just a fall song!
Other context: I actually don't know much about this band, except that they're from LA (I think?). One of my friends sent it to me in 2021 and I'll forever be grateful.
