Listen Here #3
Hi babes,
Not gonna lie, I had a delightfully busy weekend (see song rec #1 below), work was crazy today, and then I got distracted by, I-shit-you-not, starting to write a song, and almost forgot to push send on this missive.
Maybe someday the song that’s currently half-finished (it feels promising! Here’s hoping) will make it into a musician’s corner. Meanwhile, we have a lovely rec from my lovely friend Rae, AND a musician’s corner from Lady Queen Paradise! I just listened to both and I think I’m in love?? Wow. Get thee to your headphones, y’all.
<3 Lauren
p.s. don’t forget to rec a song!
This Week’s Songs:

Song/Artist: “The Mistress” by Amelia Curran
Genre: Canadiana-folk-indie-singer/songwriter
Feels like: Plaintive yet self-possessed
Loved by: Rae
Why I love this song: This song has been on nearly every playlist I’ve made for more than a decade. It’s one of Amelia Curran’s danciest songs and I love her voice so much.
Other context: Amelia Curran should be better-known as a national treasure. She is a mental health advocate and activist as well as an excellent musician.
Song/Artist: "Nick Of Time" by Bonnie Raitt
Genre: Pop
Feels like: joyful, a little funky
Loved by: Lauren
Why I love this song: I played this at my best friend's wedding on Saturday with a crack team of incredible musician friends!! Thus, I listened to it about 25 times straight to try capture some of Bonnie's inimitable magic. Her voice is so smooth, with that burr underneath. May we also all find love in the nick of time!
Other context: Happy wedding to Aaron and Heather <3 I love you both so much!
Musician’s Corner
lady queen paradise, an artist based out of Seattle, WA would like to share an album “Into the red kingdom.” Sounds like: judee sill, feist, folk tale.
