Listen Here #2
Friends! We have our FIRST song recommendation from a reader. High five, Paul! Hell yeah brother! Guess what? I listened to the song and it made my heart absolutely soar. It should be soundtracking a high school movie opening scene, you know what I mean?
I’m recommending a song that has an opposite effect… it makes my heart rate slow down. Also, I put a couple recordings on my bandcamp, so I’m going to link those in ye olde musician’s corner.
Recommend a song — I’ve already iterated the form, take a look! Share it with the world! And tell your friends about this newsletter so we can all find new songs to make our hearts soar.

Song/Artist: "Expert in a Dying Field" by The Beths
Genre: power pop rock
Feels like: Clever, catchy, hooks, more hooks
Loved by: Paul Faith
Why I love this song: This song is shining pop rock jewel. This song never fails to elicit a chuckle or a smile from me: from some of the opening lines "Plausible deniability, I swear I've never heard of it" to Liz Stokes' charming Kiwi accent throughout the song - "eehx-peart". Clever, masterfully produced, tight and catchy as all get out.
Other context: The entire album is a tightly wound pop rock rollercoaster - have listened to it end to end many times over the past year.
Song/Artist: "Ingydar" by Adrianne Lenker
Genre: Folk/New-Folk
Feels like: so beautiful it hurts me
Loved by: Lauren
Why I love this song: It's like holding an old photo print of your childhood backyard. Red-brown leaves falling onto green grass. The coloring of the photo is a little faded, in the way those drugstore one-hour prints could be. You can feel the crisp wind on your red cheeks, hear the cars going by on the main drag two blocks away. You look up at the impossibly blue sky and something aches in your chest.
Other context: I did the Adrianne Lenker school of song course, AMA.
Musician’s Corner
Past Imperfect, a band/artist based out of New Orleans, LA, would like to share a pair of Singles called "Redwoods”. Feels like: the tallest trees growing deep into the earth and far up into the sky.
