Listen Here #17: Mardi Gras (part 1)
Hi friends!
It’s Mardi Gras and time is almost meaningless at this point - it will become fully meaningless from Thursday, Feb 27th through Ash Wednesday. The parading weekends (if you participate) are a gravitational well, dragging the surrounding days into the merry dance.
All that to say—until Ash Wednesday, this newsletter will be sent out if/when I have inspiration!
Today, I’m going to do a few brief recs for your dancing feet. Playlists here: Spotify/Apple Music.
1 & 2) Do Whatcha Wanna and Cassanova by Rebirth Brass Band. Is it even Mardi Gras if you haven’t heard a marching band do these songs??? I’d argue no.
3) Around The World (La La La La La) by A Touch Of Class and Pete Konemann. Stevie and Faith and I heard this at Boheme on Friday and all as one said to each other oh that’s a good parade song.
4) Let’s Hear It For The Boy by Deniece Williams. A classic of the soundtrack genre. I once saw the 610 Stompers do a routine to this song during Muses, and it’s more or less been on my dance playlists since.
5) 360 by Charli XCX. At two separate dance parties I’ve been at in the past week, two separate DJs played 365. I get that 365 is better to mix into a set, but I just like 360 better. I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia, etc.
That’s all for now! Get some sleep and stay hydrated ;)
