The problem with time
The problem with time is…there's simultaneously too much of it, and somehow not enough, to do what needs to be done.
When looking forwards to the revolution that needs to happen, with incremental change as more people get involved in mutual aid and other liberatory practices, is that the results are too slow for the majority of people who are at risk now.
I keep trying to remind myself this is a generational goal, and that we will not see liberation nor justice in our time, but that ours is to pave the way, set precedent, role-model, establish the seeds of future freedom.
It is intensely difficult to remain calm about this, when the people who are at risk now are my friends - people I've come to know through mutual aid; people I talk to every day; people with whom I share in-jokes, memes, frustration and deep anger at the widespread apathy, and second-hand heartbreak.
And because I live in my body and am not in charge of my thoughts, I hurt. I rage. I despair. I give up. I try again. I ache. I dissociate. I lose track. I stress.
Mostly I struggle to understand how anyone in a position of privilege, when faced with the depth and prevalence of deprivation, doesn't do any of the above.
And yet…they don't.
Is it because they don't want to hurt? Maybe? After all, we are designed to avoid harm - the issue in these modern times is that we Pale People of Privilege have been taught to interpret discomfort as harm, and so we avoid discomfort.
We avoid discomfort so much, we are willing to sacrifice others to protect ourselves.
We prioritise our comfort over other people's entire lives. Especially Black people's.
To hurt is human.
To see others hurting and want to stop them hurting, is humane.
The best time to start is right now.

Solidarity Spotlight
My friend Britt has been homeless for nearly 2 years, following an unfair eviction (now ruled upon in court, not that this helped). They and their ESA cat Topaz, are 'housed' in one of the vanishingly few places that accepts animals, and their shelter goal yesterday was catastrophically failed.
Most of Britt's days for the past 2 years have been a relentless slog of screaming onto the internet, managing Topaz, and trying to get friendly staff to be a tiny, life-savingly bit flexible.
Friendly staff have moved to other jobs. A hate campaign has tanked support. Regular supporters have grown bored, or less willing to share.
An emergency response is required from as many people as possible.
Please send whatever you safely can via linktr.ee/hiitsbritt - please share this email if you can't spare, and please find ways to uplift Britt's emergency needs.

[Alt text: An infographic on textured off-white background with large yellow and blue text reading UNHOUSED BLACK FEMME IS AT RISK.
Graphic also has blue inflatable flower illustrations at the top-left and middle-right, and a large yellow smiley face graphic in the bottom-left corner.
Flyer reads:
Britt (they/them) has been unhoused for 1 year 7 months and has lost all support. Cannot garner sustained support; no visibility. Subjected to daily harassment and doxing that transcends the online space. No safeguarding. Britt has enrolled in higher Ed to try and stabilize family. Being unsupported each week worsens already low QOL.
WILL. NOT. SURVIVE. WITH. NO. HELP. NO FAMILY. NO VILLAGE. NO HOME. HARM REDUCTION CRITICALLY NEEDED.
