Doll's Eye View - a Bonus Novella for You!
Hello, wonderful readers!
This month’s newsletter is going to be a bit different, because I have finally finished the subscription gift I’ve been working on to thank everyone who welcomes me into their inbox month after month. I appreciate you all so much.
It was supposed to be a short story, taking place between Secondhand Origin Stories and Names in Their Blood (which, remember, comes out this July!), told from the point of view of the building AI, Martin.
Well, it’s still between those two books, and it’s still solidly in Martin’s point of view, but I guess it decided to be a smallish novella. So I hope you will forgive me for not drumming up a lot more to say this month.
If you’re really pining for my rambling, I’ll point out that the letters I wrote about home security and automation were more or less in service for writing this story (with a few additional rabbit holes I fell down and included because they were interesting. The smart toilet research isn’t really represented in the story- I just couldn’t refrain from sharing it.) You can find those here, here, here, and here.
Otherwise, please just click through to enjoy a free story about a sentient AI looking to create a portable auxiliary body of their own. It does contain spoilers for Secondhand Origin Stories, but otherwise is the sweetest, chillest, most content-warning-free thing I’ve written.
Thank you, as always, and remember that I have a shiny new comment section if you open this letter in a browser, and I love hearing from you all.
See you next month,
Lee Brontide
Thank you for joining me for another month of Shed Letters. If you know someone who you think would like to join us, please feel personally invited to share any of these emails, or send them an invitation to sign up here. And remember that Secondhand Origin Stories is available for free as an ebook here, or in paperback form from your local independent book shop or wherever books are sold.
