I should not be scared of you!
I have left the room and handed the computer to my partner
Friends! It’s going SO WELL!

Before I launch a Kickstarter I am always scared— ’cause crowdfunding is all about humans, and humans are delightfully unpredictable. Unfortunately, my day job is launching crowdfunding campaigns, so my beautiful husband Maddox has to deal with this every couple of months. And sometimes this makes me a little grumpy and… well, a lot.
Maddox has been a huge support during this project. He started making youtube videos for me about the songs we’ve been recording.
Maddox met me after the Doubleclicks stopped touring, and he has been a big supporter in getting this show on the road. So, as a thanks and an apology, I am now handing him the computer so he can tell you what he thinks about all of this.

HI IT’S ME MADDOX! Wow, I am feeling tremendously powerful—and entirely unsupervised, because Laser has recklessly left the room!! What a treat to be this trusted. He knows, based on my general laundry ambivalence, that even if there were dirty laundry to share—if, say, he and Aubrey were feuding like members of a queerer, more literary, and more interesting Oasis—I would be disinclined to get involved. (They aren’t. I love having a sister-in-law so much).
Anyway, a beautiful similarity between me and Laser is that we are creative and ambitious people. Likewise, we are both by turns empowered and stressed out by the scope of our own dreams. One of the things that drew me to Laser in the first place was the scale of his first musical, which he was producing at the same time I was producing my first play at the Hollywood Fringe. I told him in our vows, “When you decide something’s worth doing, it’s getting done, and well. I’m not even surprised anymore when I hear you’ve made someone’s dreams come true.”
What delights me most about this album project is how Laser is investing his considerable time and talents in his OWN dreams. He loves to support other people—helping them channel their passions into the words and graphics that an audience will find irresistible is his other day job.
But now I get to see him dig down and be vulnerable and make his OWN art, on his own terms, and feel all those feelings. More than any artist I’ve ever known, Laser’s art expresses feelings we only get to hear in that medium. Listening to clips and demos of the magic he and Sam and Tony are making is getting to know a whole new side of him. And it’s a great side. When you guys hear “You’re Wrong About Gender,” you’re gonna lose. it.
Thankfully, I’ve gotten to see Laser relax as he realizes, little by slowly, that you all, the Doubleclicks community, haven’t “moved on” since he and Aubrey stepped back from touring. You haven’t forgotten the connections you made with the hardest-working folk-comedy-pop duo in the business. And you’ll be there to welcome them back to your hometown stages and coffee shops and living rooms. And that’s the absolute best.
So on behalf of myself, and our pets, thank you, everybody, for showing up. We’re gonna have such a goddamn good time*.
Thank you!
Laser (and Maddox and Roxy and Jackie and Afi, his biggest fans)
