Farm Update

Hi everyone,

At just the right minute, if you catch the sun, you can almost imagine that spring is coming … but for now, I’m happy to be watching the sun rise from the comfort of my living room rather than the milking shed. I miss the milk, though!

I finally got a chance to write up a “year in review.” If you’re interested, here it is: https://rmosolgo.github.io/farming/2025/12/27/lake-road-farm-year-in-review.html

Planning for the spring: Sadly, breeding didn’t go as planned, so only two cows will be in milk during 2026. That’s only enough to serve about 2/3rds capacity 😿 I plan offer what I can to members in order of “seniority” — starting with those who joined first. If orders remain the same, I expect to be able to serve members who joined before summer 2024. Feel free to get in touch if you have questions about this.

The two calves are due on March 13 and April 2. I expect the first milk service will start in early April.

Between now and then, we’ll have the last of hay feeding and, by the looks of it, a lot of mud!

‘til next time,

Robert

Clearing last year’s bedding from the loafing area (and into the garden)
Finishing off the biggest, oldest burn pile on the farm
Bluebell didn’t have the personality for milking, but wow, look at the marbling on that chuck!
