One Month from Today...
Today is October 5. The US election is exactly one month away. And so is the publication date for ORDINARY DEVOTION.
Yes, my very first novel is being published on the same day as a hugely consequential presidential election.
Frankly, I don’t know why my publisher picked this date. And initially, when I found out, I was filled with dread. Who gives a crap about my silly little novel on a day when we’re going to be glued to our screens, watching the vote counts come in (well, the more politically obsessed among us will, at least)?
But, then I reminded myself that a book has a long shelf life (pun absolutely intended). People can wander into their local Barnes and Noble or independent bookstore in the days and months (and years?) to come to pick up a copy. And loads of people order books on Amazon or Bookshop.org.
So now I’m thinking of pub day as a day for me. After I do my duty as an American citizen on November 5, I‘ll go to a local bookstore (or two) to see my book on the shelf. And then I will treat myself to a facial, or a pedicure. And maybe a cookie (or two).
The real party comes a few days later, when I’ll be reading at Stanza Books here in Beacon on November 9. More info on that event here. If you’re busy that weekend or NYC is more convenient, fear not: on December 7, my excellent pal Jessie will be hosting a celebration at her place in Brooklyn (details to come!).
By the way, ORDINARY DEVOTION has received a couple very nice reviews, should you care to read them.
Thanks as always for reading friends, and for putting up with me along this journey…
