Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum
The Brainfart Chronicles
Updates & Random Thoughts
- Ok, maybe more like monthly than ever two weeks.
- I finally got American Artifacts: The Complete Collection up for sale in both print and PDF format. You can also now buy the print edition of The Comprehensive Soldier.
- On the Cinemechanix front, I started trying to fix something that kind of bugged me, failed to do so, and then came up with a solution that might work but would probably require re-tweaking other things. That's ok. The idea is to make the game I want to make, not to get the game on the market. I'm still hoping to have the Cinemechanix version of Hobomancer out by October 2019.
- A couple weeks ago I went to a Christmas party in Lexington where Leighton and I pitched each other some ideas for new Brainfart books. I'm excited about them.
- At the same Christmas party, a couple of friends recommended Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero. I ordered it, read it in a few days, and highly recommend everyone else do the same. It's basically Scooby Doo meets Cthulhu. I've have sort of a love/hate relationship with mashups because so many of them are awful and miss the point of both properties, but this one is firmly in the "love" column.
- Along the same lines, Leighton gave me the first issue of a comic called Die, which is based on the idea that the kids from the D&D cartoon were all really fucked up by the experience and have to go back to the game world as adults. The concept grabbed me a lot more than the actual contents of the first issue, but I'll probably give it a shot when a trade comes out.
- Just finished Sabrina on Netflix. The only thing really unique about it is that a bunch of the characters openly worship Satan and it's played more for laughs than shock value, but it's not bad. I'll watch the next season.
- I also recommend Hasan Minhaj's Netflix show and Patton Oswalt's new special.
Word of the Week
Brainfart Press will eventually release a dictionary of words nobody particularly needs to know, tentatively titled (with apologies to Ambrose Bierce) "The Dumbass Dictionary." Here's one of those words:Kung-Fu Eating Action:
The ability to ingest horrifically large quantities of food, especially steak.
