Busy, Busy, Busy
The Brainfart Chronicles
Updates & Random Thoughts
- This week's subject line comes from Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle. If you haven't read it, you should. In fact, you should read as many Kurt Vonnegut books as you can. I haven't read all of them, but it's mostly because I try to space them out in order to delay the inevitable moment when I have read all of Kurt Vonnegut's books.
- I got off-schedule again due to work on Cinemechanix, but the good news is that I've finally got a (very, very rough) draft of workable rules on paper. Now it's just a matter of testing them out at conventions.(Comments are enabled for the Google doc, so feel free to ask questions and give feedback).
- Con season is here:
- Registration for GenCon began at Noon today, and about half of our games sold out in the first hour. So if you want to get into any Hex GenCon games, you need to sign up now.
- DieCon is just two weeks away.
- Everything isn't finalized yet, but it looks like there's a good chance I'll be returning to OMG!Con the week after DieCon.
- And of course we'll be bringing as much of the crew as possible to Archon in October, where we'll hopefully be unveiling the first "powered by Cinemechanix" game.
- Hex artist, writer, layout guy, and GenCon organizer Josh Burnett has started a Patreon page. Give him your money.
- The next-to-last season of Into the Badlands is more of the same: extremely shallow world-building and characters, but damn it looks cool.
- The final season of Ash vs. Evil Dead was fun, but made the mistake of ending with the set-up for a much better show that (I assume) is never going to be made.
- Duckie is a surprisingly good Lex Luthor.
- Game of Thrones continues to be the most entertaining hacky trash on television. I'm sad to see it ending.
- Adding this week's Word (contributed by Leighton Connor) reminded me that I don't think I ever provided a link to my review of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote here. Now I have.
Word of the Week
Brainfart Press will eventually release a dictionary of words nobody particularly needs to know, tentatively titled (with apologies to Ambrose Bierce) "The Dumbass Dictionary." Here's one of those words:
Quixotic:
Acting or speaking in a manner reminiscent of Terry Gilliam.
