Kinetic Council September 2025 Updates

Well hello again. Whether you're here because you subscribed to my newsletter, attended a webinar, or were referred by a friend, you're part of a greater content community.

September greetings, fellow kinetic-curious people,

Here’s a quick update on how we’re working away in the background to make things happen.

What we've done

It's official - we now have 501(C)(3) status in the US, which is the designation for a not-for-profit association. This means we have certain obligations to inform, educate, and move the profession forward.

We held our first community session, where we could come together to talk shop. As it was our first get-together, there was more introduction and presentation (Andrew Nhem talked about the organisation and his role as facilitator of these community sessions.)

Our next session will be more discussion-focused, with suggestions from participants because, of course, these meetings are about the topics that interest you. As our session will come on the heels of a couple of interesting conferences, there are sure to be discussions arising from things heard during conference presentations.

We're aiming for bi-monthly talk-shop sessions for the moment, so the next one will be in October.

What we're working on now

The setup of an organisation is long and painful, so that's an ongoing activity with a lot of moving parts. Thanks to Cruce Saunders, Mike Markley, and Paula Land for their persistence.

With the help of Marcia Volpe, we're setting up some online infrastructure so volunteers can find what they're looking for, and so we are organised when volunteers do come on board to participate.

One of our new volunteers, Kit Hoekstra-Brown, is helping us solidify our messaging around vision and mission so that we communicate well with potential members and sponsors. As content people, it would be sad not to get the messaging clarified!

Speaking of volunteers, there are opportunities to join us - read on!

Next steps

Updating the website is next on the list. We've held off so that we can get a bit more content alignment, but the update should happen in September.

We've got ambitious plans and, in the vein of "it takes a village", we're gathering our village to make things happen. Some initiatives on the table include:

  • Getting a better understanding of the knowledge gaps that members want to fill
  • Setting up areas of interest for members wanting more information
  • Developing educational programs with the help of educational institutions
  • Working with corporate sponsors to introduce different kinds of software
  • Building community through discussions, presentations, and collaborations
  • Spreading the word through information tables at industry events

Feel free to drop me a line if you're interested in contributing to building this organisation.

-Rahel
