We're back. The Power Fantasy #2 is out, and we pick up where we left of last time, as is traditional in serialised narrative. As mentioned last time, there's been a distribution problem so some shops won't be getting their full allotment – but the rest will follow along with the third printing of issue 1 next week. So if you miss it, you'll hopefully get it then, and next week is ALSO an ideal time to jump aboard.
After the precision engineered machine of issue 1, issue 2 is where we loosen the rhythm a little and let the cast do their thing, and we reveal whole other reasons to be worried. Caspar, of course, sings. Here's the first couple of reviews.
Here's a preview of the first four pages...
Honestly, I laugh at Etienne's little wave every time.
It's available form all fine comic shops and digitally (US/UK/CA)
I swore I already plugged this, but it's still in my notes, so maybe I didn't.
We Called Them Giants' launch party is at GOSH on Halloween. 7-9pm. Oct 31st.
Come say "Hi" to Stephanie and me, or just stare at us sinisterly from across the room. Whatever works.
I plugged its approach last time, but The Gold Teeth kickstarter has launched. I'd urge folks to back it as...
Oh, let's go with how Jim and Marsh has described it...
“Captain Pugwash in hell”. Oh my.
- Scott Snyder has been beating the drum for his and Nick Dragota's ABSOLUTE BATMAN, that was on FOC this week (It's good – I read an advance, and the whole thing brings the thunder). Here he is writing about how one can go about hyping your book.
- Jess Nevins starts his History of Comics In 500 issues podcast here. I still haven't had a chance to listen, but Jess is great, and it's a wonderful idea.
- I haven't said anything about the Oasis reunion, but this article at the Quietus on their younger female fans from across the world was interesting.
I'm keeping this one relatively short, as my arms are hurting, which says a lot about how much I've been writing recently. Yet still, here I am, tap-tap-tapping away.
It's been a big week. On the personal side, we've started trying to sell our house – and got some offers. And on Monday, accepted one. Obviously a huge relief, not least as it means we don't need to keep the house clean any more. I am very lazy.
Workwise, as said last time, there's a lot on, but I'm still on target. Well, I'm not. I”m off-target, but only because the target has moved, and I re-prioritised the work with that in mind. Basicaly, I booted the second script I had to do to next week. So as well as chipping away on The Non-Comics Project, I've wrapped up The Power Fantasy #5, which ends the first arc. Katie and Caspar love it, which makes me happy – every issue of TPF is significantly different, as I find solutions to the problems the material is demanding. It's a Magus-centric issue, it's fun to give the arsehole central stage.
Today is sorting out the final few tweaks on 3 before it goes to press – it's already at Image, but I have some micro-details I need to align. We're doing something (er) with a certain swagger, and I needed to spend a morning double-checking the plotting until issue 16 to ensure we'll fulfil the promises we'll be making. I think it's sorted now. It's also something of a relief, as I now know it really will all work. Phew. Caspar is just wrapping issue 4 – last page at the moment, and then will dive straight into issue 5 after whatever minor tweaks.
(Issue 5's script features the word Dong a lot more than I'd expect. A nagging thing about the book has been there's mild nudity in issues 3 and 4 - and as they're Valentina and Masumi focused, it meant we'd done women naked twice before dudes at all. Hence: the need for dong. Which would clearly be the title of this newsletter, but I suspect it'd end up with me in the spam filter.)
Next up? More game stuff and my Hollows scenario, which has the bones, but needs some more bones, as it's a horror game, so needs all the bones you can fit in. And viscera. You know the drill.
Right – I'll wrap this for now. See you next week for the third printing and the rest of issue two.
In other news, I think I like Bluegrass? It's been a year, guys, it's been a year.
