022: Gynty The Roo
Hullo.
I'm in the sort of work place where I need someone tweeting at me that I have a comic out this week to realise I have a comic out this week.

Yes, the fifth issue of Uber Invasion is out. This time we primarily introduce the Uber R&D Scene to the mix, to show a new Uber type in the process of being developed. It's inevitably horrible, but I finally get around to doing a formalist thing I've wanted to do forever. You'll know it when you hit it, as it's the in-world object beat.
(You can get it from your shop or digitally)
The arc is abstractly reaching its conclusion, but in practice, it doesn't work like that. There's less arc based stuff going for the first twelve issues – I suspect that issue 7 would make a better climax than issue 6. Each issue is more modular, with its own focus, introducing elements that come into play on the next one.
This is on my mind, as I just started working on issue 10. Yes, for those who followed last week's chewing over of what to write next, I decided it'd be better to get one issue ahead on everything, and then think again. It was prompted by Daniel sending his first bunch of pages for issue 9, and when an artist is half-way through an issue it's normally a good prompt to make sure there's a script waiting for them.
(I wrapped up WicDiv 31 yesterday, and will probably go onto Aphra 11 after that. I will be cagey about both scripts. WicDiv is in that before-end-of-arc place, where anything I say will be a spoiler. There's an expectation that a character will die at the end of the arc, so me saying “Oh, I highly enjoyed writing the scene with the excellent God Gooflerbox” is kind of a spoiler, or just cruel (because someone being dead doesn't mean I won't write a scene with them, as shown post Issue 11.)
Anyway – I'll use codenames. Suffice to say, I really enjoyed writing scenes involving GarbleGunter and Gynty The Roo, and I think they may be the best stuff ever done with either of them.
I am not going to google GarbleGunter, Gynty The Roo or Gooflerbox in case they're porn acts I've yet to hear about.

I haven't done asks on my tumblr in ages. I've got a bunch of good questions backed up, which I hope to get to in the next week. So if you have anything meaty you want to ask, now's a good time to hit me up.
I've just got an couple of asks about the week in comics that was, regarding Diversity. I'd direct people to Willow's piece, which is precise, personal and measured.

I'm returning to my Home Town of Stafford on April 15th to do a Q&A to help celebrate the opening of the comic library. It's at the House of Bread. I'll try and write some more next week, but it's fascinating to do anything to do with my day job in Stafford.
I forgot to mention that I've done the Writer Notes for WicDiv 27 last time. I have. You can read them here. Gleeful director's commentary nonsense.
That 25 Years Of Image panel with Warren Ellis, Alison Sampson, Emi Lenox, Declan Shavley, Eric Stephenson, Jamie and Myself at Orbital? The recording is online here and you should listen to it if you like hearing words fall out of our heads.
WicDiv is out in Spain. Here's a photo from Norma's booth, which is lovely.
We also did a big interview with Spanish Youtuber Bamf! Which was fun.
Oh, and the French edition of Phonogram: Rue Britannia have turned up.
We changed the title, because we didn’t want to confuse the French into thinking it was called“Britannia Street.” Though us doing a Phonmantic-centric reimagining of Seasme Street would be excellent. “This show is brought to you by the letters, “I”, “I” and the Number 1.”

And now it’s time to eat delicious food. Omnomnom. Byeeee, etc.
