There are many comics this week. One of them is mine, which I did entirely by myself, with no help from anyone else. I am the Divine Gillen and all must see me and despair.
Okay, writing WicDiv 455 may be getting to me.
Er... Aphra #3 is out. Here's a preview. Meet Captain Tolvan who has a STRONG LOOK.
And the rest is here.
I haven't had a chance to look at much what else is out this week, but I read a preview of CURSE WORDS and liked it a lot. In short - put Saruman into the plot of Enchanted. Give it a nose.

Talking Star Wars, this made me smile.
I had heard that Doctor Aphra was going to be in Force Arena as a supporting character, which is obviously fun. It's not the first time something I was involved in making up has turned up in a videogame, but previously it's always been something I've created for the medium. To see Aphra skip over to an animated form obviously is a giggle.
What I hadn't heard until it was announced was that 0-0-0 and BT-1 are an expansion pack for Fantasy Flight's Imperial Assault game.
Which, with my terrible love of miniatures, delighted me intensely. I've been resisting buying it since release (as I know the Descent model where you really need to lean into campaign play doesn't exactly suit my lifestyle) but this could push me over the edge. Or at least to get hold of the pack.
That said, it's going to involve painting black to an acceptable level, which is never my strong point. Maybe I'll just cover the pair of them in blood, which is my usual solution to disguising technical failings in my paintings and/or evening wear dilemmas.

I wanted to write something about today's speech by Teresa May about her plans for Brexist. I was going to try and be an optimist, and find something I liked about the speech.
The best I can do is “eventually, she stopped speaking.”

Current in the workflow is actually 455. I had to stop yesterday to write another short five-page project for an anthology, which is formalist and playful, and kind of gave me the urge to do a whole book of comics-about-making-comics.
I find myself remembering the introduction of Understanding Comics, and the punchline “aren't you a little young for that sort of thing?”
455 is going... well? The specials are something I worry about intensely, and over-research, before having a moment of clarity. This time it happened when I was on the phone to my mum, explaining what I was up to, and explaining the rough outline of the issue.
(Er... minus certain details, because WicDiv 455 is totally not Rated Mum.)
Anyway, I hit a point and realised the utter ludicrousness of having spent the last six months researching 1000 years of history just so I can write 26 pages of comics. Just do the WicDiv thing of sampling the best tunes, turning the volume up and setting the whole thing on fire.
Hopefully I'll have the whole thing over to the artist on Saturday, which means that I'll start to talk about it next week, and ideally reveal them. Both covers are done, and we also finalised the cover for Imperial Phase (Part I), which I'm sure will bemuse everyone.

Oh yeah.
It's Image's 25th Anniversary this February. There's a bunch of covers celebrating classic Image books.
We did this one.
Matt and Chip did this.
It was Eric's idea, believe it or not.
Speak to your retailer if you want this horror in your life.
