Hope inside disaster
Our health is failing
Mentally, we are not coping well with the state of the world. Wars are going on in every corner of the globe and people prefer to continue as if none of it will affect them.
I am starting this Substack so that we can find our voice. As multiply marginalised people, we have had our voices stolen from us so many times. Authorities telling us that we should sit down, shut up, and take what was given to us.
Our day job has gotten difficult to attend as our mental health has deteriorated. So while we do our best to get stable, we will use this time reflect. To grow stronger.
“We?”
Yes, we are plural. Plurality means different things for different people. To us, we identify as a multiple system. In essence, we are multiple souls in one human body. Strange? Imagine being me!
What?
I don’t have any schedule planned for our posts. I don’t know what this space will become. It may languish in a dusty corner of my massive to-do list. What I do know is that I want to get into journalism. Tech interests me, but only as a tool to facilitate revolution. War machines interest me because of my sick fascination with my own destruction. And because I love horror and the battlefield represents the spectre of chaos and death that haunts us all.
Why?
Substack says we are building a community here. To be honest, I am not great with people. But I’ve been inspired by journalists like Robert Evans and Jake Hanarhan. And trans icon Margaret Killjoy. To find my voice. And use it for good.
In our day-to-day, we are frequently not listened to. Perhaps because we’re read as a butch lesbian or because we are visibly trans, or because we’re black. When you have multiple marginalisations it’s difficult to tell the difference. Some can, but we definitely can’t.
Our voices are important and I hope to be heard. We have wisdom and experience to provide. We also have a lot to learn and need to practice humility.
I believe in a better world that integrates transformative justice principles into the foundations of our communities. I believe in honesty and transparency which you will find in my future work.
Will you help us build this crazy dream of a just society?
