I am Declaring War

My spouse has been working very hard on her garden, trying to grow potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, broomcorn, sunflowers, and plenty of other things. And things were going great! Except…

There is a groundhog. We have named them Buddy after Buddy Hackett who voices the groundhog in the Rankin/Bass Jack Frost special. Turns out Buddy’s a girl because including her there have been three baby groundhogs rummaging around our yard. (Who my spouse has dubbed Huey, Dewey, and Louey.) We recognized the groundhogs need food and so we very thoughtfully planted a sacrificial zucchini plant. But do they eat the zucchini plant? No. Because why would they?

So the spouse and I are going to the hardware store later today to acquire chicken wire in an attempt to keep the groundhogs out of the garden bed. Wish us luck.
