Magic/k
the messiness of language and the culinary (dis)connections of spiritual work and sleight of hand
The title of Magic/k began for me as an art series, as yet unfinished, the goal of which is to explore the connections between magic, the performance art, and magic, the spiritual act of conjuring and focusing intention through spells. I was curious what this exploration would look like in food: through my art series and through conversations during my visit to the Conjuring Arts Research Center and my own experience, I focused on the ways in which each practice helps us imagine worlds that can be rather than just the world that is. Are magic practitioners and performers using food to this effect, too?
