Cultivating Wonder
A few links for a slow scroll and a bit of delight this Monday
(Yes, it’s a rare week where you’re getting two Monday emails! I felt pulled to share this reading list today rather than saving it. I hope you enjoy!)
Monday is what I call my CEO Day, where I do all the business and life admin-y stuff that sets me up for the week and also keeps me from worrying about it for the rest of the week, too.
I like to start off my Monday with some meditation and, in the case of this week, my tasks included dusting off some old Trello boards full of interesting links. In the process, I've rediscovered some really delightful, wonder-inducing, playful reads and listens to set our collective weeks off to a good start.
Microbial Symphony by Max Graze is a perennial favorite of mine: Combining sound design based on the flavor and growth characteristics of microbes and imagining the new sounds they'd create when brought together.
Each circle shows the microbial makeup of common foods, and if you hover over each one, you can hear the microbial symphony of its combined organisms.
Claire Lower's caramelized pickle dip is on my to-cook list this week.
Whalequest sorts sentences from Moby Dick by their semantic similarity to the word 'whale': The most whale-y sentences first, and the least whale-y last.
My work is fueled by questions, and one I recently explored was the difference between true molasses and blackstrap.
On my to-watch list this week is this The Future is Fungi panel, including Merlin Sheldrake, Jeff VanderMeer, Kaitlin Smith, and Corey Pressman.
And finally, on my to-listen list this week is A Journey Across the Steppes.
What reading/listening (or whatever else) is bringing you a sense of wonder this week?
P.S. if you're curious, Tuesday is for designing workshops and classes and 1:1 client meetings, Wednesday is uninterrupted deep work day, Thursday is for writing commissioned articles and books, and Friday is wrap up day and often also writing group day.
