Making the move
My big idea in semi-retirement has been to move from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast. Nearly all my work can be done remotely.
We had a trial with a rental house, but it was bigger than we needed. We’ve now found a beautiful apartment in Cotton Tree, a suburb of Maroochydore, with an ocean view. Settlement is around the end of May.
After that, we’ll be spending most of our time between the Coast and Far North Queensland where Nancy has a little farm, with occasional in-person visits to UQ.
I’ve already joined a Tri Club and a running group, so the process of adjustment is well under way. Nancy and I have found good places to swim, cycle and run.
With all that, I haven’t slowed down much as far as work is concerned, though I’m doing more opinion pieces and less journal articles. I also have three books coming out soon!
But by the second half of the year, I’m hoping to have some genuine free time. I’ll start with the Brissie to the Bay cycle ride to raise funds for MS Queensland. You can donate here
