FCBD
The happiest day of the year!*
*At least for comics!
Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) was launched in 2002 as an annual promotional effort by the US & Canadian comic book industry to attract new readers and support independent comic stores.
It normally happens on the first Saturday of May, and the first coincided with the opening weekend of the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man (2002).
It’s a fabulous celebration of the art form, with stores often putting on a big party atmosphere and giving visitors anywhere from one to a dozen free issues for that year.
(It’s also important to note that the stores do a LOT of work for these days, and have to pay for the comics they give out, so it’s critical to buy something from them when you visit. And they have so much cool stuff!)

I have visited my local comic shop on FCBD whenever possible, and often make it a big deal for my kids - having them select a few books that appeal to them from the shelves, going out for lunch afterwards while we read our comics, and such.
This year, I was invited by Crossover Comics - an absolutely amazing local Montreal store - to particpate in their “Independet Comic Creators” showcase.

Unfortunately, I was forced to be away this weekend across the country at a memorial, but I arranged to have friends&family reps promoting Dead Money, and all accounts indicate it was a smashing success.

And now back to the Kickstarter for 2 & 3.
