What is a Population Bottleneck - and How It Might Have Affected Us

Genetics is an interesting topic. Our genetic code is a mechanism for natural selection and evolution. It also determines things like our hair and eye color...or whether your Labrador is black, yellow, or chocolate.
We have understood it at a basic level for a long time...since we started domesticating plants and animals. Maize is so far from its wild ancestor, teosinte, that it took DNA testing to identify it. Domestic horses have withers...and Przewalski's horses/takai don't for a reason.
One concept that you might have heard is a genetic or population bottleneck. It came up again recently, so I thought it would be interesting to explore.
