Was This Really Made This Century?

Wizards of Waverly Place 1.12 "Justin's Little Sister"
Surprise, surprise, no dog. The dog will clearly never be seen again.
Frustrated at being compared to Justin, Alex deploys a genie...who makes everyone forget Justin ever existed.
She's lucky he wasn't erased.
Oh, wait. He also ends up invisible.
None of this was particularly funny, tbh. My sympathy level for Alex is marginally higher; she really thinks she's that smart, but I did at that age!
Wizards of Waverly Place 1.13 "Wizard School Part 1"
Eww. It's a two-parter.
Look, I will absolutely give them Harry Potter mockery, but this was made this century.
There is, thus, no excuse for the first and so far only Black character in this show to be evil.
I honestly hadn't noticed how horribly white this show was (given it's set in NYC, natch) until they did this. Now I have a bit of a bad taste.
It's also only funny in the context of being Harry Potter mockery, which makes it weak.
And it's a two parter. Sigh.
Wizards of Waverly Place 1.14 "Wizard School Part 2"
Okay, the food fight, that part's funny. (duelling food mascots. Literally).
Alex manages to defeat the evil wizard with a well placed truth spell, but I can't help but think the family wizard thing is thoroughly unfair.
Both of them deserve it.
What's with that rule anyway?
And what's with the wizard draining theme park?
Wizards of Waverly Place 1.15 "The Supernatural"
Justin has his eye on a girl who only dates baseball players. Justin is terrible at baseball. So, of course, he uses magic to cheat.
Unfortunately, the baseball coach is his dad. Shenanigans ensue, because Alex is also after one of the baseball players.
(Meanwhile, Justin is oblivious to the fact that Harper is totally in to him, because of course he is).
Moral is not cheating to impress girls. Or boys, for that matter.
Wizards of Waverly Place 1.16 "Alex in the Middle"
So, we get to discover more about the family wizard thing, although not why! Jerry, it seems, let his brother have the powers because otherwise he couldn't marry a non-wizard.
(Maybe they should have told the kids this before they reached dating age?)
We know this when his brother, possibly the least competent wizard ever shows up. He's cool, he uses magic all the time, and Alex thinks he's obviously the better teacher.
Obviously not!
The sea chimp thing IS kind of funny...
