Daredevil 2.6 “Regrets Only”

When superhero shows…when any show that isn’t a courtroom drama visits a courtroom, they typically get it wrong.

This one actually doesn’t do a bad job, but I’m not sure what made me feel it wasn’t quite right. Although tbh, more people should turn down plea deals.

Reyes really has it in for N&M…and for Castle. It seems almost personal. Meanwhile. Elektra gets Matt to help her steal something so bad the Yakuza keep it in code…worse than human trafficking (although the human trafficking not in code was labor, not sexual, so maybe it’s just that).

Now they have a week to prepare for a trial. Which…yeah. I don’t think even expedited justice moves that quickly.

Reyes is a fun villain. Elektra is Elektra…

Andor 2.1 “One Year Later”

Cassian is now an established member of the Rebellion, and on a mission to steal an Imperial test ship. Leda’s dreams of romance are falling rather flat.

The Empire has plans to strip mine a planet called Gorman for a high energy mineral…destroying a thriving textile industry and a culture of 800,000 people.

How these threads all come together is uncertain, not to mention the wheat farmers who aren’t just wheat farmers.

There’s a lot of shooting, both in space and on planet, and things are not going to plan. A group of ragtag survivors apparently killed Cassian’s contact and are now after the ship to get off planet, except it’s not exactly a transport.

Lots of threads, no knot yet. If you start here without watching season one, you’re very likely to get quite, quite lost. Even with season one, I got slightly lost, but let’s hope it ties together with time.

Andor 2.2 “Sagrona Teema”

I felt this episode had one plot too many…it got a bit head hoppy switching between rebels hiding from imperial inspection on a bread basket world, Andor’s own personal problems trying to get off a jungle world (to said bread basket world, apparently, but there’s a lot of violence), and Leda Mothma’s wedding.

It was very interesting to see the wedding customs and the wedding hike? I could get behind a wedding hike. But the amount of actual story in that segment was thin and could have been conveyed another way.

Yeah, I’m feeling particularly critical today.

Also, the grain silos did not work. The grain silos did not work. Have these people ever been to the Midwest?

I know they have hover vehicles, but you still don’t position grain silos where you would have to drive through/over the crops to get to them!

Talk to some farmers, people.

Andor 2.3 “Harvest”

CW: Attempted sexual assault

They. Have. Never. Been. To. The. Midwest.

I’m serious.

Okay, so, you have a cluster of grain silos, and somebody shoots a high powered energy weapon into one of them.

Ask any Midwest child and they will tell you how bad this would be. The silo you hit would explode. If you were really lucky, the other silos would not explode.

Most likely you would have a giant crater where the entire cluster of grain silos were because grain silos explode at the slightest spark.

You wouldn’t have a nice hole in the side and a bunch of StormTroopers buried under grain. It was a cool effect, but…yeah.

Also, the guy who died? Would have lived if people in this world put on helmets when they get on speeders.

This is the immigration enforcement episode and it is appropriately brutal. The grain silo thing probably only ruined it for a portion of viewers. We see a guy turned in by the same farmer who has been underpaying him and, yes, there’s an attempted rape scene.

And it’s nicely juxtaposed with the ridiculously fancy and energetic party at Leda’s wedding, including, no kidding, a Droid-o ball.

They overlap the music and that makes it even better. I would have loved this episode. But grain silos, dammit.

Andor 2.4 “Have You Ever Been To Ghorman?”

CW: Large spiders

We have already been introduced to Ghorman. Paid trolls are working to destroy the planet’s reputation, the Empire is building, and Andor is being sent there to see if it’s worth hooking up with the local resistance, the Ghorman Front.

(The large spider is “dead” and obviously a prop, but if you are really arachnophobic it might bother you).

The audience knows why the Empire is harassing Ghorman. But the Ghormanese don’t, and the Rebellion certainly doesn’t. This can’t go anywhere pretty.

(I want more large spiders. I think they’re cute. YMMV).
