Traveling to Camp Halfblood
Review: Percy Jackon and the Olympians 1:1

A short one this week. I have more for next!
Episode Review: Percy Jackson and the Olympians 1:1 “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher.”
I really need to read Percy Jackson as somebody compared Daughter of Fire to it. Which led me to not read it so I could honestly say I didn’t rip it off!
I still need to get round to the books, but somebody told me the new series was a much better take than the movies.
I can see the comparison. It’s a kids’ series and it’s a magical school series, but it treats mythology in much the same way I did.
I also didn’t realize Percy was short for Perseus. Which is dumb of me.
The young lead, Walker Scobell, is on point. And the casting is diverse. His protector, Grover, the satyr, is played by a Desi character. The female lead, whom we haven’t seen much of yet, is Black.
And the SFX are really good. The harpy is done very well, so is the satyr and the minotaur. We haven’t seen Chrion (also Black) yet except in silhouette, but I trust them on it. If Daughter of Fire was turned into a movie, I want this SFX team. (Well, we’ve seen Chiron in human disguise, but not with all his hooves showing).
And here is a spoiler.
I did have one problem with the episode though: The fridging. Yes, there’s a classic fridging. And it’s the dead mom trope. She didn’t need to die for the plot to work, Rick. She didn’t. I’m assuming this is from the books, and the book was written a while ago…
Still, definitely going to keep watching this one.
