The Precious Place of the Sail Trainer

When I got to Baltimore, I couldn’t help but notice an extra set of masts. The Constellation is a permanent feature (as a special note, it has never been formally decommissioned and was used to provide very secure office space during World War II).
But occasionally other ships show up in the Inner Harbor. In this case, our visitor was the BAE Guayas. The Guayas belongs to the Ecuadoran Navy and was launched in 1976…so a few years younger than me. The ship is a steel hulled barque carrying just over 15,000 square feet of sail when fully rigged. Yes, they sometimes race it.
