Summer Calm

Red waterlilies mark a shallow pond by a grassy lawn.

It’s always hard to queue multiple updates. When you get this, I’ll be in Wilmington, NC, getting some much needed R&R.

Almost through Astounding at this point. I don’t expect the last author, Tia Tashiro, to unseat Moniquill Blackgoose as my first pick, but she may surprise me. This isn’t on Tashiro…I just adore Moniquill’s work. Anti-colonialist dragon academy with fission breath for the win!

Two of the six Astounding candidates this year are exclusive authors of short fiction - Angela Liu and Tia Tashiro. That’s rare, but I think it’s good for our field to have the award not always go to a novelist.

I just can’t bring myself to choose them over Moniquill.

(Note that I am using Moniquill’s first name because I believe that is her preference…if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know).

Other than that…it’s a pretty quiet summer for me so far.
