None Make War but Men and Ants - and Sex Slaves Too?

A gun emplacement, seen from the rear, with the butt of a cannon visible on its turret.

Ah, ants. Honestly, most of the time I've dealt with ants it's been wanting them to go away. In the UK we have red ants and wood ants, which both sting if you piss them off. Red ants are also known as European fire ants. We had those in our yard. They're not as bad as fire ants (nor actually related to them), but they would definitely sting me if I put a hand on them. Can't really blame them.

And, of course, we were always having to keep the harmless, but food stealing, black garden ants out of the greenhouse.

But many ants engage in some really weird and complex behaviors. Including, yes, war. Oh, and slavery. And domestication!

So, let's take a look at what these little bugs get up to.
