Nebulas Retrospective
My impressions of Kansas City: Barbecue, giant shuttlecocks (trust me, the dragon is not nanotech. That is a seriously large shuttlecock), a weird electicism and…uh, a lot of people smoking and a good proportion of them, let’s just say it wasn’t nicotine. I’m not saying Kansas City was stoned, but it seemed to have a lot of stoners!
The barbecue was fantastic. Also got some pretty decent ice cream and a cheap but awesome smashburger at a cheap but awesome diner that appears not to have raised its prices…or maybe I just time traveled. It could be time travel.
Checked out the waterfront and the original Kansas townsite. And some old bridges. There’s so much river traffic and so little rail traffic over a couple of the bridges they just leave them “open.”
The conference itself was awesome. Shout outs to everyone involved. Slightly disappointed I was the only person who actually brought a dragon to the ceremony. Somebody has a picture of me singing karaoke in a cocktail dress. No, I was not sober.
I feel like I learned a lot, but haven’t internalized it all yet.
And if I ever go back, there’s at least three or four barbecue places I didn’t try…just saying.
On top of that, my cousin Andrea, whom I haven’t spoken to since I was seven, randomly showed up on Facebook, proving that Facebook still serves its original purpose ;).
Next week is Origins. Looking for editing work for when I get back…I’d like to be busy this summer when I’m not flitting around…we have trips planned to Wilmington and Harpers Ferry. Oh, and it’s hot and I want ice cream, but am waiting until I get to Columbus for that. Jeni’s, here we come.
