More Bad Decisions

Black Sails 2.8
Oh, well…how about some bad decisions.
Okay, here’s the thing? Eleanor had to rescue Abigail, it wasn’t a bad decision even if it does seem like it might end poorly.
And she definitely made the right call allying with Mrs. Mapleton (did I mention not pissing off the madam?)
But maybe she should kill Max. Seriously, she should kill Max.
John Silver is in grave danger of being elected Captain. He is truly horrified by the thought, and who can blame him?
He really did miss his vocation as a tavern storyteller, after all.
And what is going to happen between Ashe and Flint? It’s a nice cliffhanger and I am definitely wanting to find out…
Black Sails 2.9
Things are going…poorly. For everyone.
Flint and Mrs Barlow sail to the Carolinas to return Abigail to her father and almost make a deal with him but, bad decision time, Miranda screws it up. Now she’s dead and Flint is in prison and about to face a show trial and inevitable execution.
Meanwhile, Vane is stealing Flint’s ship, but Billy and Silver are still on board and up to something. Well, until they find they have to rescue Flint instead. Even Vane is in favor of this!
He was about to retire to a farm with his lady! Of course he was.
And in more things going poorly, Eleanor is taken hostage and turned over to the Royal Navy so she can face trial for her crimes (being a fence and all).
One more episode in this season and I do predict they will both escape, but how might be a challenge…
Black Sails 2.10
So, it’s the governor who’s civilized and the pirates who aren’t?
1. They haven’t kangaroo courted anyone.
2. I can’t imagine any of these pirates putting a woman’s corpse on display like that.
Ashe comes to a well deserved end. Eleanor is on her way to England (or is she?). Silver, of course, loses his leg. It’s not a proper pirate show without a peg leg, after all.
(And we knew he was going to at some point).
The treasure is in Nassau.
Jack and Anne are back together.
All is completely and utterly wrong with the world.
Today’s bad decisions include Silver missing an opportunity to retake the ship, Ashe being a thorough idiot, and everything connected to that blasted gold.
Doctor Who 2.5 “The Story and the Engine”
Doctor Who has touched on a variety of subgenres in its 60 year history, but there is one that hasn’t been seen…until this episode.
The Story and the Engine is…afrofuturism. Set in Lagos and beautifully penned by Nigerian poet and playwright Inua Ellams, it’s a perfect introduction to the genre for Doctor Who fans who haven’t dabbled in it. Outright stepping into fantasy, it’s about the power of story.
The Doctor goes to Lagos as part of his quest to get Belinda home, but also to meet a friend. (We discover the TARDIS cuts his hair. Does this explain some of the flamboyant dos of the past?)
…and is held hostage in a barber shop that’s actually on a giant spaceship shaped like a spider. Yes, Anansi is involved in this episode…tangentially. The spider-ship is literally powered by stories.
And the Doctor has so many he blows it up.
The big surprise was an unexpected cameo by Jo Martin, reinforcing that the Fugitive Doctor remains canon…and that the Doctor might be starting to regain some of their memories of that past.
Beautiful. But CW: GIANT SPIDER. I do know people who would struggle with this episode, although I’m also flashing back to even creepier spiders in the Doctor’s past…
Black Sails 3.1
Bad decisions!
The abandoned ship in the middle of the ocean? How could you think for a second that it isn’t a trap, Captain Flint? You know better.
John, listen to the surgeon.
And yes, you guys need to hide that accursed gold (it’s not literally cursed, but it might as well be).
Oh, and Eleanor is about to avoid hanging by betraying Nassau to save it. Or something. I’m sure that’s how she feels about it.
But I was legit yelling “It’s a trap” at the screen.
This is that kind of show.
Oh, and hello Edward Teach, I was wondering when you would show up…
