Fascists and Explosions

A white waterfall flows between dark grey rocks and tall pine trees.

The Avengers 3.10 “The Grandeur That Was Rome”

I have to admit, a tainted food episode was…a tiny bit on the nose for this week. Oops.

But it also involves an evil guy who’s obsessed with Ancient Rome and seeks to restore it, by creating a plague. (Justinian, anyone?) to which only he has the antidote.

Needless to say this ends poorly for him and his cohort. I have to assume the actual in character date was the Ides of March. (Alas, the air date was in November. Missed opportunity! They couldn’t have aired it on March 15, but they could have done March 14! Why…)

Pretty good episode, although Roman Guy should have fired his barber. Of course, bad guys with no taste is in form.

(What’s not in form is the scientist being a misogynist. Even the bad guys normally don’t go there. Ow).

Daredevil 1.13 "Daredevil"

As the title indicates, Daredevil finally gets his signature red and black costume.

And Fisk is going down. Of course, we can't kill Fisk. He's going to jail. Even the characters know he might well be back. Even if they don't want to admit it. And there's lots of action, of course, including a knock down drag out between Matt and Fisk that leaves both of them bloody.

Vanessa has lost any vestiges of innocent victim status. She's close to becoming a crimelord in her own right. Which I like better, to be honest. I'm not a fan of the "good woman trying to fix the bad man" trope (as much as I enjoy a good redemption arc).

And Matt and Foggy have made up...which is perhaps the most important thing of all.

Wizards of Waverly Place 3.2 "Halloween."

The Sub Station's Halloween job is a haunted house. Justin designs it. It's not scary.

They're told they can't do it again if they don't make it scarier. The result is predictable...it ends up too scary.

After shenanigans involving Alex, ghosts, and the monster under Justin's bed. (Justin, it turns out, is a bit of a wuss about monsters).

Still not hugely funny, but at least nobody was dressed as an Indian princess...I was legit bracing myself.

Daredevil 2.1 "Bang"

Removing Fisk has created the inevitable: A power vacuum in Hell's Kitchen. And an unknown force is determined to fill it, going after other players including the Irish and a biker gang.

Daredevil and Foggy need to find out what's going on. They're still keeping things from Karen which is, by the way, dumb. She's brilliant. You boys need her.

"It's not underwear. Underwear is comfortable."

Super suits are not.

Without knowing who the new threat is, this really is just setting the scene. Somebody is killing bad guys.

But that doesn't last long before they start killing civilians, right?

Andor 1.9 "Nobody's Listening!"

Not to the senate, and certainly not to the prisoners. There's no way out of the prison factory; they're all there until they're worked to death. And a prisoner is indeed dead.

The senate, presumably, does not know.

Also, torture by the screams of alien children shudder. Probably some kind of evolutionary defense mechanism.

Bix canary'd, but I don't blame her. Not that the information she gave them is useful given they can't find Cassian when he's in one of their own prisons.

Ah, gotta love incompetent fascists.
