Climate Fiction and...Getting Enough Sleep?
Five short stories

Another short post, I haven’t got as much read as I’ve liked. I do have two long plane flights coming up (although I plan on trying to sleep on one of them). So, no full review (also I’m splitting between this Monday and next Monday as I won’t be back until fairly late on Monday and may not feel like posting).
Short Fiction Roundup:
“You Are My Endling” by Julie Reeser (Little Blue Marble) – Kids take on features from extinct animals as a means of climate protest. Timely and intriguing. Link: https://www.patreon.com/posts/you-are-my-by-82622025
“A Song for the Selkies” by Damilola Oyedotun (Reckoning) – A selkie goes to the human world to help villagers fight polluters…despite not trusting humans. Kind of a clifi Little Mermaid and I honestly liked it a lot. Link: https://reckoning.press/a-song-for-the-selkies/
“Saturday’s Song” by Wole Talabi (Lightspeed) – Just wow. Seven siblings/cosmic entities tell the story of a woman caught up in revenge and what happens when family goes bad. And what happens when family sets you free. Recommended and on my novelette longlist. Link: https://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/saturdays-song/
“The Dream Thief” by Jenna Glover (Factor Four) – The author apparently had insomnia when she wrote this, and it’s about sleep as privilege, as goal. I also couldn’t help but think of fatal familial insomnia. A little disturbing, but well written. Link: https://factorfourmag.com/the-dream-thief-by-jenna-glover/
“Hibernation Heirloom” by Chelsea Muller (Sunday Morning Transport). I have never been a new mother, but I have a feeling all new mothers will appreciate the desire to turn into a bear just to get a break! Link:
“Pamplona” by A.P. Howell (The Cosmic Background). A well written drabble. I can’t say much about it or the review will be longer than the story. Link: https://www.thecosmicbackground.com/stories/a-p-howell-pamplona
