I finally, this week, finished reading The Expanse…and I have thoughts.

The Expanse is, at its core, a variant on the Big Dumb Object trope (or should we call it the Big Smart Object). The term was possibly coined by Roz Kaveney in 1981, but certainly popularized by Peter Nicholls in 1993.
