Bad Decisions and Dirty Fighting

A large yellow and red boat in a dry dock. There's a parking lot on one side and a three storey building on the other.

Black Sails 3.9

Bad decisions: Underestimate Eleanor Guthrie, trust Eleanor Guthrie, execute pirates.

Vane is dead. This is a bad thing for the English not the pirates. They rushed through a show trial.

Or rather Eleanor did, in part because she’s after revenge (another bad decision). And with the Governor incapacitated, Eleanor is the one in charge with nobody to temper her. Mr. Scott is also dead…so there’s absolutely nobody she listens to any more.

Is she on England’s side? Nah, she’s on Eleanor’s side and this is not going to end well.

Oh, and Blackbeard is pissed. Bad things happen when Blackbeard gets pissed…

Black Sails 3.10

Bad decisions: Follow a defector into the interior of the island. When you know better. It’s funny how a large amount of money destroys any good sense a pirate has, right, Captain Hornicutt?

The Black Spot finally shows up. I suspect they didn’t know they were getting a season four and while they rewrote the ending, they had already tied together the treasure, the Black Spot, and everything else they needed.

I suspect season four will be about the fate of Nassau Town and Providence Island. We already had one big set piece naval battle (which didn’t look too terrible for this show). We still have Eleanor Guthrie acting as the Governor’s mouthpiece and claiing to be wholly his (I don’t believe her).

And we still have the fate of the maroons…there’s a lot they can do with season four, but I suspect it will be what happens to Nassau that really matters.

Black Sails 4.1

Bad decisions: Think Long John Silver is dead, leave your wife for Eleanor, screw Max over.

(This is as bad as sleeping with Max).

Rogers is discovering his divorce is extremely costly as his ex gets his creditors to call in his debts…debts he has no hope of paying.

And he’s passing on some of the financial strain to Max and the tavern, which is not a good move. She’s mad and will probably switch sides on him.

I think my prediction that the last season will be about the fate of Nassau is accurate. Right now, both sides in the war are badly weakened.

Oh, and there’s some seriously dirty fighting going on. Yeouch. Not that I blame him.

The pirate coalition isn’t doing well in Silver’s absence – but unlike us they don’t know he has full blown plot immortality.

Here’s a nit I’ve been longing to pick…long haired characters going into fights with their hair completely loose. Like…no. And also no. Lots of sailors did have long hair, but they always kept it tied back or in a bun.
