Bad Decisions and Broken Hearts

Black Sails 4.6
CW: Sexual assault
Bad decision to end all bad decisions: Allying with Spain. And giving them permission to sack Nassau
And who pays the biggest price for that? Eleanor and Madi. And Anne. Eleanor is dead and Anne is in critical condition. Madi is MIA presumed dead. Mess.
The pirates are fleeing, but they are joined by maroons from all over the Caribbean. They’re going to try and retake Nassau.
What’s left of it.
And Max has a plan. Max always has a plan. In this case she’s hoping to get Eleanor’s family to help avenge her.
(Near bad decision: Eleanor almost got back together with Max. Which felt a bit Bury Your Gays but they’re both such great characters I can live with it).
I think this is the most overtly anti-colonialist moment of the series.
The Spanish commander saying that he can’t call his men back once he’s unleashed them…chilling.
Black Sails 4.7
Bad decisions: Not listening to the Black guy, crossing Flint, crossing Flint again, everyone’s crossing Flint.
This can’t end well for anyone.
Meanwhile, Rogers has Madi and is trying to trade her for the cache. Flint is determined to rescue her. Silver has the cache…or does he? I have to think Silver is exactly the kind of guy to try and pull a fake cache switch, with the real one still safe.
Flint wouldn’t think of it…or go with it…but Silver definitely would.
Rackham and Max gain the support of Eleanor’s grandmother, the real power behind the throne, but on the condition Rackham personally kill Flint as proof of loyalty.
Yeah.
Everyone’s crossing Flint. We know Silver survives. Nobody else, as we’ve seen, is safe…
Black Sails 4.8
Bad decisions: Blowing up a perfectly good plan because you’re in luv. And…it’s Max this time. It’s usually people doing that for Max.
Getting into a fight with Flint.
Going to Skeleton Island.
(Which is the actual Treasure Island, not sure how the cache gets lost there).
We get a little horror story with hints of the supernatural, but obviously Avery made it up. There’s no real supernatural here. But a place called Skeleton Island doesn’t seem like a smart place to go.
Max had a perfect plan with Grandma Guthrie…until Grandma Guthrie tried to marry her off. To a weakling she could have controlled and sent to one of the girls if she didn’t want to sleep with him while she kept Anne as a lover.
Max.
You.
Idiot.
(I mean, I love my lesbian pirates, but…)
Flint and Silver are fighting. Everyone wants Silver dead.
Two episodes left…
The Handmaid’s Tale 2.4 “Other Women”
Ooh boy.
This is about brainwashing. Offred has been returned to the Waterfords, on probation as long as she sticks to the story that she was kidnapped and is a good girl.
They throw her a baby shower, but Serena is having problems. And Aunt Lydia is practically living with them, although it slowly becomes clear that she has two purposes…one is to break Offred so she won’t try to run away again. The other is to protect Offred from a jealous, angry Serena Joy who is now hitting Marthas because she can’t hit June.
We also get a flashback in which it’s confirmed that June was, well…okay. The home was already broken, but Luke’s wife clearly sees her as a homebreaker. Did said wife turn them in? Did said wife…in the book, it’s all fertile women in second marriages, but…
Either way, Offred appears to be broken now…but is she?
