A Little Bit Wicked - and a Spider

Manhattan seen from a ship in the harbor, under threatening, gray skies.

Wynonna Earp 1.6 "Constant Cravings."

Oh dear. There's a cannibal around.

Wynonna has killed five of the specific seven revenants she wants dead, but one of them has a brand? The Blacksmith, a witch, helps them work it out...but is really implying Wynonna shouldn't trust Dolls.

Hey, Wynonna, don't trust Dolls.

Waverly is now bonded to some kind of skull and is apparently going to be a witch. This makes perfect sense...she is a bit more Willow than Dawn.

And also really don't trust Dolls. He's...well...chemically dependent. Beautiful. I knew this was all such a bad idea.

This is a show of bad ideas. Not bad decisions per se. Just bad ideas.

Wicked: For Good

So, I will start by strongly disagreeing with the people who argued that act 2 was a lot worse than act 1.

There is the issue that most of the good songs are in act 1..."For Good" is really the only act 2 standout.

But other than that...

Jeff Goldblum stands out even more in the second half. He is clearly having tremendous amounts of fun chewing the scenery. Honestly, now I can't imagine anyone better as the Wizard in this specific context.

Cynthia Erivo is still the true star, and "For Good" highlighted that she has a better instrument than Ariana Grande, although Grande is a highly technically competent singer.

How many gowns does one witch need? Were they just going for a costuming award, theme pink? (Seriously, there was some really beautiful costuming work, most of it being worn by Ariana Grande, and most of it pink).

I am half tempted to check the AO3 tab for all the polyships that should exist where they both get Fiyero. They should both get Fiyero. There's enough of him to share. (also, the ending gives the option of having Fiyero and Elphaba show up in alllll of your fandoms).

The visuals were spot on and I appreciated that they actually did the melting in shadow play just like in the stage production.

But I want more Cynthia Erivo.

My only issue was that just like in act one, they extended the ending too much. They also instafixed the Wizard's fascism as soon as he left...sorry, it takes years to de-fascist somewhere.

I wish that was less relevant than it is...

Wynonna Earp 1.7 "Walking After Midnight"

Oh, Doc...Oh, Doc. You've been patient this long, why not a bit longer?

Waverly is protecting a skull that turns out not to be human...although we have no idea what it is.

Oh, and Waverly's at a hen night, which then gets, well, attacked.

Meanwhile, Dolls is facing the usual "You haven't gotten results, I'm sending you to...Sweden, in this case." And sells Doc to save Wynonna.

What a mess. But really, he could have taken out the witch and broken the curse. ALL he had to do was wait until midnight.

(Also, were he and Earp? Maybe wishful thinking, but it's rather implied).

Wynonna Earp 1.8 "Two-Faced Jack"

I actually think this was meant to be a season finale...or perhaps a mid-season one, but there was no gap in the initial airing.

Wynonna has been kidnapped by a serial killer.

Doc and Dolls chase down another revenant and we have the boxing episode. Because there has to be a boxing episode. Which ends much the way Spock's wedding did, just saying. Except with fewer Vulcan bitches.

And then there's the part I can't buy.

I am sorry.

I am sorry.

I cannot take that actor...or, more to the point that accent...seriously as Jack the Ripper. (Also, what was he doing in Purgatory). True, I should have realized last episode who was about to show up and groaned then.

It...really wasn't necessary except to ramp up the body horror.

But...no.

That. Accent.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man 1.3 "Secret Identity Crisis"

There's a lot of viewer irony here, because those of us who know, know trusting Norman Osbourne is really, really bad.

Peter, though, doesn't know what we know (and no doubt it goes over the head of anyone for whom this is their introduction to the Spidey-Verse.

Meanwhile, Linc does something dumb from which Peter is going to have to rescue him.

Peter also gets into his first meta-fight, albeit with tech-enhanced people not actual superpowers. We see the first example of how he gets beaten down, thinks about it, gets up and fights smarter. This time, he has help, but...
