A Grab Bag of Adventure

A row of buildings. The central one has EST 1890 at the top, but the ground floor is labeled HELLS KITCHEN with dojo signs above it.

Wizards of Waverly Place 2.16 "Future Harper"

Harper comes back from the future to write books about wizards and reveals the wizard world won't stay secret for much longer...and its the fault of a Russo. Or possibly Harper.

And she's come back from the future, presumably with the help of a wizard, because in the future wizarding books aren't interesting because everyone knows or...

Okay, it's just plain timey wimey.

Mixed feelings about the fake after school special at the end.

Daredevil 1.1 "Into the Ring"

Superhero origin stories are a thing. In many ways, they've been done to death, but Daredevil is a less familiar character so, unlike Spider-Man endlessly being bitten, this one did feel a little fresher.

Yes, I finally got to the old Netflix Daredevil show, and it's just as brutal and stark as I heard. The limited color palette is an interesting, but solid choice for a show about a blind man.

The blind fighter is actually a pretty old trope I should dig into at some point. The pilot episode is a scene setter, but one with plenty of action. Not to mention a touch of noir given there is, of course, a dame.

And the dame, of course, becomes the secretary. Of course she does.

Andor 1.1 "Kassa"

Somebody mentioned they wouldn't want to live in the Star Wars universe. My immediate thought was...where?

Cassian starts the show on a planet I wouldn't want to live on, particularly. It appears your choices are stultifying employment with a corporation that does something unspecified, or "free" life in little more than a shantytown. But there are places in that universe I would definitely want to live.

We see flashbacks to his life on a primitive colony as he navigates getting into a fight with two corporate goons...a fight he wins a bit too thoroughly. Now there's an APB out and his contacts are drying up. Presumably it's time to leave...but go where?

Wizards of Waverly Place 2.17 "Alex Does Good"

Laritate decides Alex is selfish and needs to join his Happy Helpers Club...where he gives out horse show ribbons for good deeds that really aren't good deeds at all.

Alex decides to teach Laritate a lesson about actual selfishness. Alex (and her aging hippie neighbor) win this round.

Very, very afterschool special, but somehow they make this one work.

I'm never quite sure if I'm laughing at the intended jokes or the stuff they screw up, though.

Daredevil 1.2 "Cut Man"

"You can take a lot of punishment."

"That's just the Catholicism."

This episode we say helloooo nurse - Night Nurse, that is, the nurse who patches up vigilantes. And apparently gives advice on torture techniques...she's tougher than I thought.

Foggy and Karen get drunk and Foggy thinks he has a chance with Karen.

And we get a flashback to when Matt's dad was murdered for refusing to throw a boxing match. Seems a bit extreme, although I guess beating him up wouldn't have slowed him down...

Rough and brutal, but the interactions between the characters are starting to develop.
