2023 Roundup and Awards Eligibility
Here's what I've been up to this year.

So, this is the last Friday of 2023. Which makes it the perfect time to do a quick overview of what I’ve done this year.
It’s traditional for SF/F authors to post an awards eligibility/brag list at or towards the end of the year.
So, here’s my list of eligible works. Most of these are short fiction.
Novels
Kyx - first book in the Council of Worlds series. This series is, by far, my best work yet (authors aren’t always the best judge, but my editor says it is and she’s less biased ;)).
Tyranis - second book in the Council of Worlds series.
First books are generally better if you did want to nominate, but I’m expecting to see more buzz from short fiction.
Short Fiction
So, here’s the list, including publication and genre. Alphabetical order.
Bandit - Science Fiction, Triangulation: Seven-Day Weekend, PARSEC Ink.
Great Detective in a Box - Science Fiction Mystery, The Reinvented Detective, Arc Manor
Machines - Science Fiction, Game On!, Zombies Need Brains
Pollen - Science Fiction, Dread Space II
Watching Mars - Science Fiction, Analog September/October 2023
Welcome To… - Science Fiction, Apparition Lit Flash Fiction Contest
Woodwose - Dark Fantasy, More Than A Monster, Grendel Press
So, uh, what happened to fantasy and horror? I guess it’s just the way things worked out this year. I already have five stories in my “to be published in 2024” folder…and four of those are SF too!
So, which do I think is my best story of the year? Authors can’t judge their own work as well as we can others.
But the story I am most proud of is “Machines,” which is mentioned in the back blurb. “Woodwose” is a close second (and is eligible for fantasy only awards).
I won’t stop bragging. We’re told not to, but it’s not a bad thing to do!
