Spring and Things!
Hello!
It's been a while since I've sent out a newsletter, and to be honest, that's because nothing truly newsworthy has happened in the past few months. But even though patches of snow are still covering the grass in my area of the world, I can smell spring in the air. I feel a bit like a hibernating bear who's starting to rouse, stomach grumbling in anticipation of honey and berries.
With spring comes award season in the SFF world, and the Locus Awards are open for voting until April 15! The exciting thing about the Locus Awards is that anyone can vote--that means you! If you read anything at all you loved in 2022 (in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror) you can vote for it. That includes my story "The Weight of It All," which appears on the Locus Magazine Recommended Reading List (and which is therefore prefilled in the voting poll) BUT you can write in anything you loved! In addition to voting for several stories on the reading list, I wrote in two stories: "Bonesoup" by Eugenia Triantafyllou and "NeuNet" by Sharang Biswas.
Another event that's open to absolutely everyone is the Flights of Foundry convention, which is happening April 14-16. Flights of Foundry is an entirely online, global convention for speculative creators, with tons of panels, workshops, and readings. It's a lot of fun, and it's FREE. This year I'll be on six panels, and I'll also be giving a reading, so if you have some time that weekend, register here.
Lastly, it's been a while since I've paid my cat tax. So here's a picture of Loki making himself VERY USEFUL by keeping my yoga blanket warm.
Wishing you a spring filled with lots of growing things and very few allergies,
Jen
