A NEBULA NOMINATION!?!?
Yes, it’s true! My story “The Witch Trap,” which came out in the magazine Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, has been nominated for a Nebula Award! I am both absolutely floored and completely giddy. This is a story that I’ve wanted to write for twenty-five years, and I’m just incredibly happy that it resonated so much with readers!
The winners will be announced at the Nebula conference in Kansas City on June 7. I’ll be attending the conference and the awards ceremony, which means I’ll get to wear a fancy dress and makeup and feel like a real bigwig. I am not anticipating that I’ll win—my category is absolutely stacked with fantastic stories—but I’m planning to enjoy the heck out of the experience.
If you haven’t read “The Witch Trap” yet and you’d like to, you can buy a copy of Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet issue 48 (print or ebook) here: https://smallbeerpress.com/lcrw/2024/09/01/lady-churchills-rosebud-wristlet-no-48/ LCRW is a wonderful magazine edited by Kelly Link and Gavin Grant, and is well worth a read. Or, if you’re short on cash, I put the text of my story up on a hidden page of my website: https://www.jenniferhudakwrites.com/the-witch-trap/ Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
And do check out the other nominated works as well; there’s so much good stuff on the ballot this year! You can see all the nominees here: https://nebulas.sfwa.org/award-year/2024/
In other news, I’m participating in a couple of upcoming reading series, both of them online and free!
The first is with Strong Women, Strange Worlds on Friday April 4 at noon EDT. It’s an hour-long virtual reading featuring six writers (including me), each reading for 5-10 minutes. A nice little lunchtime break! It’s free, but registration is required: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/first-friday-third-thursday-quickread-registration-1232280005669?aff=ebdsoporgprofile
The second is with Story Hour, a really wonderful virtual reading series I’ve participated in before. I’ll be reading with Anneke Schwob on Wednesday May 7 at 10pm EDT. No registration required; just show up for an hour of fiction! https://www.storyhour2020.com/
If you’ve made it this far, thank you! I appreciate you more than I can say!
