August Updates! Upcoming events, Inoscularum news, and... Ghosts??
Hey there! Hope the dog days of summer are treating you all well. Personally, I caught one whiff of fall in the air recently and I’ve been in the Halloween spirit ever since then. I’ve got some pretty exciting updates this month!
UPCOMING EVENTS
As we swing into zine and comic show season, I’m just going to keep a little list up here at the top of the newsletter of places you can find me and my comics in the upcoming months! So far, I’ll be at:
Zine Machine on October 25th from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Durham Armory!
Zoxfest on November 14th at the Thornton Library (210 Main St. Oxford, NC)!
INOSCULARUM… IT’S DONE!!

That’s right, I’ve finished everything, including the cover artwork, for Inoscularum #1! I’ve scanned all the pages, and now I’m in the process of cleaning up my scans to get everything ready to print! I’m just so excited to share this book, and all the future books in this series, with you all.

I’m also about 40 pages into thumbnailing and scripting book 2! Here’s a completely inscrutable preview of what’s to come:

OTHER STUFF!
Okay, here’s the part of the newsletter where I come clean about the fact that there aren’t any actual ghosts contained in the body of this e-mail, at least as far as I’m aware. But there is something even better than an actual ghost, which is August’s Critter of the Month…
THE ATLANTIC GHOST CRAB!!

These crabs primarily come out at night, have 360 degree vision, and can scuttle around at speeds of up to ten miles per hour! I recently got to see what I would estimate to be a couple hundred of them on the beach at night while my husband and I were camping out on Ocracoke island. They were both eerie and adorable.
SONG OF THE MONTH
August’s Song of the Month is this specific recording of Sweet Transvestite, performed by Tim Curry as part of the cast recording for the original Rocky Horror stage show. He is absolutely on fire in this recording! Really fantastic.
It feels pretty messed up that the world has lost Tim Curry and Dolly Parton in the same week. When people who were so good and special pass away, it can feel like the amount of goodness in the world has taken a big hit. But I think it’s important to remember that no one is born good, and no one is born special. The choice to be good to each other, and contribute to the world in our own way, is one we can make every day.
END OF AUGUST NEWSLETTER
Well, that’s it for this month’s news, critters, and songs, and this marks a full year of newsletters! Thanks, everyone, for staying tuned in to my little updates for a whole year! I think in the new year of my newsletter, I’m going to let the Song of the Month segment take a little rest, and swap it out for something new. Recipe of the Month, maybe? Book of the Month? Movie of the Month? Tree of the Month? I’m not sure yet. I’m open to suggestions!
Hope you guys all have a nice month, and that you get some time to step outside and take a look at the moon. The next full moon is… on Friday!
