A Spiffy New September Newsletter!

Happy Autumn, everybody! I hope you’re all enjoying some cooler temperatures and some pumpkin-flavored things including but not limited to actual pumpkins!
As we swing into zine and comic show season, I’m just going to keep a little list up here at the top of the newsletter of places you can find me and my comics in the upcoming months! So far, I’ll be at:
Zine Machine on October 25th from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Durham Armory!
Zoxfest on November 14th at the Thornton Library (210 Main St. Oxford, NC)!
IN OTHER NEWS… IT’S A BOOK!! IT’S A BOOK!!

That’s right, after about 2 years of working to make this book, it’s finally in my hands! It feels pretty good, and I’m not just talking about the soft-touch lamination. I think more than anything, I feel relieved to have this first book in the series done. There’s a lot of “figuring things out” that happens in the first chapter of a story, and it can be an awkward process that comes in fits and starts. But now I’m feeling a lot more comfortable with these characters, their world, and where I want to take their story, and I’m ready to really have some fun with it all!
SO, LIKE, WHAT IS INOSCULARUM ANYWAY?
For all the blabbing I’ve done in this newsletter about making Inoscularum, I haven’t said much about the actual premise of this comic! Well, it’s about two people named Nox and Ariadne.

Nox is a man on a journey. He’s carrying a question around with him. One morning, he begins to find the answer to his question in the form of a young woman named…

Ariadne is a nun who has recently decided to venture outside of her cloister. The outside world is still new to her, and she frequently jumps to conclusions about unfamiliar things. One morning, she meets Nox, and discovers they have something strange and remarkable in common. Can her own desire for knowledge overcome her sheltered instincts?
Find out……… in Inoscularum #1. [MOVIE TRAILER “BOOM” SOUND EFFECT]
So, I hope if you guys read Inoscularum that you’ll enjoy it! If you’re not able to get a physical copy of the book, don’t worry! I’ll be posting a page a week for free over on ComicFury soon.
Other than Inoscularum, I’m reprinting some of my other comics to get ready for some zine and comic shows in the coming months. I’ve had a lot of fun picking out cool cardstock over at The Scrap Exchange, and I’ve got some very colorful zines to show for it!
I’ve also made a couple of angry comics about AI lately. Sometimes art can be a good way for me to express myself, but sometimes I still can’t quite hone what I’m trying to say into something effective. Some of the things I’ve drawn over the past couple of weeks have veered into, like, “orange man bad covfefe” territory, like this one of me kicking Elon Musk in the crotch while he yells, “muh birthrates!!” Turns out effective political cartoons are actually hard to make!
OTHER STUFF!!
I mentioned in last month’s newsletter that the Song of the Month segment had to move to a farm upstate, and it was time for a new segment. So without further ado, here’s the new segment…
INDIE ART OF THE MONTH!!
This segment is going to focus on shouting out self-published art of all kinds: comics, albums, paintings, illustrations, short films, animation, you name it! Here’s to all the dandelions forcing their way up through cracks in the concrete.
September’s Indie Art of the Month is The Titan by Lan!

You guys, I loooove this comic. It’s awesome! It’s got gorgeous art, post-apocalyptic living, phenomenal action scenes, and tension between the two main characters that makes your heart skip a beat while still feeling real and believable. If any of that sounds cool to you, go check it out!
CRITTER OF THE MONTH!!

Okay, maybe it’s a little condescending to call this guy a critter, but September’s Critter of the month is… yes, that’s right, it’s… 32 CHUNK!
32 Chunk is one of the many grizzly bears living in Katmai National Park, and is the defending champion of of Fat Bear Week, the week where the general public can vote for the most resourceful, adaptable, winter-ready bear in the park!
Now, I love all of the bears in the Fat Bear Week bracket, and in the whole world for that matter, but 32 Chunk is especially cool, because despite having a broken jaw, he has managed to adapt and thrive. You go, 32 Chunk! May we all be so determined.
END OF SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER
That does it for this month’s news, I hope you all have a nice month. Stay curious, stay wonderful, and don’t forget to go outside and take a look at the moon—-
Wait…
…
What’s that?
…
Do I hear a little…
Dies Irae…
off in the distance??
Could it be because… Ken Russel’s notorious 1971 film, THE DEVILS, is being re-released to theaters across the US for one week only starting October 16th?? And it’s been painstakingly restored?? And it’s been cut the way Ken Russel intended it to be shown before the BBFC cut out several minutes of very effective and important scenes for being “too blasphemous??”
YEAH! It is because of that!!
Look, I don’t want to tell anybody what to do, but I will close this newsletter by saying that I think The Devils is a film everyone should see. It’s challenging, it’s unfortunately always relevant, and it’s just unlike any movie you’ve ever watched before. Unless you’ve like, double screened Caligula and The Exorcist while doing poppers, that might come close.
