THE UPDATE
A lot has happened in the last few weeks.

Two weeks ago I had braces put on. For a while now my dentist has been telling me that I would be a bad candidate for dentures, should I lose any of my teeth. I’d been assuming that I’d just get an implant if that were to happen and, apparently, said so aloud to him for the first time this year. Turns out, implants were out for similar reasons. So, I got braces in hopes that I can maximize time with my own teeth. Yay?

Last week, we re-homed Amos, our recently adopted not-great-with-other-cats cat. After six months of fattening him up and getting him healthy, it was a bittersweet separation. By himself, he was a sweet boy with a lot of energy and an almost complete lack of fear. We miss him but we know it’s better for him and our other cats that he goes to live with another local family.

Really, that’s it. Not a lot, I guess. Just feels that way.

LISTENING
I started a new podcast last week: Ludonarrative Dissidents. It is three dudes, at least two of which are about my age, talking about roleplaying games. Two of the dudes are game designers and each episode is a different game.

For me, I think part of the novelty is listening to folks my own age talking about games with the occasional callback to “well when I was young.”

PLAYING
We haven’t had a roleplaying session in about a month now and it’s giving me jitters. I know we’ll pick up again in the new year but I miss it.

Lately, I’ve been playing my old standards on Board Game Arena: Innovation and Race for the Galaxy. Two very fun card games that work well with two players. I think I’ve talked about them both before, so I won’t go into depth again.

READING
Sequels!

The Golden Archives by Naomi Novik is the third in the Scholomance series, the first of which I talked about a while back. It’s basically what if Harry Potter but a little darker and for young adults. They are quite good if you like the genre. I always remember how much I enjoy a Naomi Novik book when I read them.

The Oleander Sword by Tasha Suri is the sequel to The Jasmine Throne. Pretty sure I talk about that one too but here’s the recap: south asian fantasy series with lesbian romance. Obviously, that is much too basic to capture the series with is also about fighting siblings, a war for a throne, strange alien gods, rebellion, and politics. It’s a slow read but I recommend them.

WATCHING
I mentioned Derry Girls in passing last time and now we’ve finished it. It is SO GOOD. As I said before, I was not expecting this show about an Irish family in Ireland during the 80s and 90s to be so funny and good but it is. Highly Recommended.

And while I’m highly recommending things, I’m going to put another plug in for One Day at a Time (the reboot). Also a comedy, this one about a Cuban-American family and their friends. It always makes me laugh.

Both these shows are on Netflix.
