07/03/24: IDIC
Why, yes, I am behind on my newsletter goals. Thanks for asking. ;)
Lately, I’ve been enjoying rewatching the second season of Star Trek: Discovery as a lead in to a rewatch of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Anson Mount’s portrayal of Captain Pike is great. (I mean, I love Discovery and SNW. I think they are great additions to Trek and I want more in that vein.)
We’ve also been watching Acolyte, the latest Star War, and that has been an interesting ride too. You can definitely see the dominoes that they are setting up for the next set of movies.
Thinking about the two different universes, much as I love both of them, I’ve come to realize that Trek, with the concept of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations, speaks to me more than the harder binaries of the Light and Dark.
IDIC has also been helping me with my personal therapy. For a long time I’ve felt like a weirdo and a lot of my interactions with childhood peers reinforced that. I’ve recently started using IDIC to remind myself that we are human beings with different strengths and weaknesses, different ways of thinking, and different social aptitudes. It’s helped me deal with some of my feelings of difference and inadequacy.
