05/31/21: Voyager and a Design Festival

TLDR
Update: Magpie Game Design Festival

Watching: Star Trek: Voyager

End Notes: You can contact me at jadettman@gmail.com

THE UPDATE
The newsletter is going to be extra short this week. I spent most of this week working on a role-playing game design that I’m submitting to the Magpie Game Design Festival, which is next month. All submissions get feedback from the Magpie Games design team and promising ones get an opportunity to do a playtest with folks online and get feedback.

For the most part, my design was in good shape but I wanted to spend some time going over it and making some tweaks that I had been planning but hadn’t gotten around to since my last round of internal playtesting. I think I’m in good shape.

WATCHING
We started watching Star Trek: Voyager this week. I say watch, not re-watch, because it just didn’t grab me when it was originally airing. Coming off our ST: Deep Space Nine rewatch, Voyager has been . . . interesting. It is definitely a different level.

Luckily, Britt was there to remind me to compare this first season of Voyager to the first season of Next Generation, rather than DS9, and I calmed down a little. This definitely closer to what I remember from my Next Gen rewatch.

So, we’re sailing through and, after that first hiccup, it’s been fine. About once an episode we have our usual “oh, Star Trek!” exclamation and we remember the early 2000s. There are seven seasons, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about it in the future.
