Feels like magic

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut. Growing up in New York City, stars at night were something I only saw in books. And on the rare occasion that there was a city-wide blackout and my parents let me sleep on the fire escape for a night.

At 8 years old I learned what the Northern Lights were and decided that my life goal was to see them. In high school I took Astronomy, and again in college.

I live in a new city now, across the street from a cemetery.

Stick with me here.

On a clear night, I can see well over 100 stars from my front porch. It feels like magic every time.

Last night was a clear night. And we’re in the middle of a solar storm. So at 3:26am, I went outside and I saw the Northern Lights.

I stood in the middle of the street and I stared up at the sky. The entire world was quiet and I was at peace.

Go stare up at the sky tonight.
