Vancouver celebrates the 100th birthday of Miles Davis with 7 incredible concerts!

Miles Davis is one of the most important & influential figures in Jazz history, inspiring millions of Jazz musicians and Jazz lovers throughout the 20th & 21st Century.

Infidels Jazz wanted to do something special to celebrate his hundredth birthday, which takes place on May 26th. While there are lots of tours taking place featuring famous names that celebrate his legacy, we wanted to focus on the incredible musicians we have right here in Vancouver. That's why we're proud to be presenting 7 concerts in May that shine a light on the many eras of important music this icon gave us, performed by over 50 of this city's most talented Jazz musicians. Special thanks to the VJO Society & to Roots of Fight for their support with these concerts.

On May 03, we kick things off at the Hollywood featuring the music that Miles Evans co-created with Canadian composer Gil Evans, as heard in albums like Sketches of Spain, Miles Ahead, Porgy & Bess, and more. Chris Davis is the perfect trumpeter to perform Miles' solos at this show, and this will be his first big Vancouver concert in years. He'll be joined by the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of James Danderfer. Please note that this concert is almost sold out, and it's unlikely that there will be tickets at the door. Chris Davis will also be performing at Tyrant Studios on May 05.

On May 08, Brad Turner will be celebrating the 1960's music of Miles Davis at the Revue Stage, as heard on albums like Nefertiti, ESP, and more. Unfortunately this concert is sold out, and there will be no tickets available at the door.

We'll be back at the Revue Stage on May 09. Electric Miles (ft. Bill Clark, Ron Samworth, Bill Runge, Andre Lachance & Bernie Arai) will be performing the 1970's music of Miles Davis, and Feven Kidane's Star People will be performing music from his 1980's albums. Please note that this concert is selling very quickly and is expected to sell out.

Trumpet phenom Julian Borkwoski will be leading a sextet at Hero's Welcome on May 17th to celebrate the music of Miles' Birth of the Cool era! This concert is selling quickly and is expected to sell out.

In addition, we will have three very special presentations at the VIFF Centre later in the month, as Vince Mai will be performing Miles' 1950's repertoire with two concerts on May 24 and Julian Borkowski will be performing there on May 26. All three of these are expected to sell out, so we recommend you act quickly.
