Lots of Jazz Highlights at VanJazz 26!
We think that Jazz should be the cornerstone of any Jazz festival, and we're serving up a lot of that in just a few weeks time!
Guitarists Jocelyn Gould and Itamar Erez are a musical match made in heaven, if the guitar is your instrument of choice. JUNO Award-winning Jocelyn Gould is best known for her work with Bria Skonberg, the Ostara Project, and Freddy Cole. She's arguably Canada's best-known Jazz guitarist and tours both the US & Canada constantly. Itamar Erez has toured all over the world as a guitarist, composer, and pianist, and is known for seamlessly fusing Jazz with various Middle Eastern musical genres.

Known for his infectious positive energy and determination to create and support a thriving jazz scene in Vancouver, VEJI (Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation) founder Hugh Fraser sadly passed in 2020. One of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, Fraser worked with the legendary big bands of Maynard Ferguson, Slide Hampton, and Clifford Jordan, and was a multiple JUNO Award winner. For this special concert, a re-formed VEJI is proud to celebrate his musical legacy. Featuring many original members of the band, and under the direction of composer/conductor/trumpeter and close friend of Hugh, Bill Clark, this ensemble will be performing many of Hugh's most-loved compositions.

Warren Wolf is the premiere jazz vibraphonist on the scene today.
For his very first Vancouver performance, he’ll will be joined by a very special one-night only band, featuring drummer Carl Allen (known for his work with Christian McBride, Benny Golson, Art Farmer, Freddie Hubbard, & Jackie McLean), and two of BC's very best Jazz musicians: John Lee on bass and Tilden Webb on piano.

Aretha Tillotson is a JUNO-nominated Canadian bassist, band leader and composer, based in Edmonton. She'll be playing her first Vancouver show as a leader at Hero's Welcome for only $10!

Bassist Buster Williams is a true Jazz legend, known for his work with Herbie Hancock, Nancy Wilson, Chet Baker, Kenny Barron, Roy Ayers, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, Shirley Horn, and dozens of other jazz luminaries.
Williams returns to Vancouver for the first time in seven years with noted pianist George Colligan (known for his work with Christian McBride, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods and more) and drummer Domo Branch (known for his work with Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Diane Reeves and more).

Guitarist Julian Jayme is known for his interpretations of the music of Brian Blade, Ben Wendel, and others. He brings old colleagues from his Berklee days to Hero's Welcome, for a very special edition of the popular Sunday series. Featuring Cole Davis (NYC) bass, and Maurio Fabrizio (Seattle) drums.
