Double album release party at the Fox, plus tributes to Betty Davis, Elis Regina, & Sonny Rollins
Infidels Jazz Shows from May 14-18
Infidels Jazz is heading into an exciting stretch of shows, presenting 6 concerts at 5 venues over 5 days!
It all starts tonight with a celebration of the music and legacy of 1970s funk icon Betty Davis, at the VIFF Centre. This features organist Mary Ancheta's MAQkestra, with special guest Dawn Pemberton. In addition, there will be a screening of the only documentary made thus far about this legend.

On Saturday we have a very special concert at the Fox Cabaret featuring Free Jazz band KneeJerk, with an opening set by Kenton Loewen and JP Carter. Both of these two groups are releasing new albums this week on the Infidels record label, and this will be your first opportunity to hear this new music, and buy a copy of the albums! These are our first two vinyl releases, and I can't wait for you to hear them. We've kept the price on this one low, so that as many people as possible can come out to celebrate with these bands.

On Sunday night, vocalist Sofia Avelino makes her Infidels debut as a bandleader, singing the music of Brazilian legend Elis Regina at Zameen Art House. There are only a handful of advance tickets left for this one, and there will be no tickets available at the door.

Our Sundays at Hero's Welcome show this weekend celebrates one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time: The Bridge by Sonny Rollins. Paying tribute to this incredible record is the Jon Bentley Quartet with special guest Bill Coon.
At Frankie's After Dark, we've got the Itamar Erez Trio on Friday, and JD Rich on Saturday. These are the first Infidels shows as a bandleader for both of these musicians. Both shows start at 11PM and are only ten bucks.
